Treating Abdominal Pain from Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Abdominal pain is a common symptom of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In fact, pain is a serious quality of life issue, causing many patients with IBS to miss work, school, and social events. How can people with IBS better manage their abdominal pain?

When in severe pain, I have been known to stay in a hot tub of water all day long just to get through it. I mean I like really hot water. Somehow it seems to soothe my stomach pain.

As a general nightly ritual, I apply a heating pad to my stomach as I wind down and read a book or watch television. It seems to help.
