Colorectal Cancer = Colostomy?

Many people may be afraid that a diagnosis of colorectal cancer means that a permanent colostomy is necessary. That's just not true. Find out how many cases of colorectal cancer do require a colostomy for treatment.

i have had my colostomy for 3 years now and ready to try irrigation. i am scared and need advise on what to do. what are the benefits and will it hurt

Irrigation can help train your colon to “go” at a certain time every day. It takes time, anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. I don’t think it’s exactly painful, but I think some people might find the learning process unpleasant. Here’s a really good description: http://www.ostomates.org/irrigation.html
