Potential New Treatment for Crohn's and Colitis
The way this drug works on the digestive tract is by tricking it. The digestive tract thinks it's not getting enough oxygen and it starts to try to protect itself. That keeps the cells in the lining of the intestines from dying and causing IBD symptoms.
To me it sounds almost too good to be true. Can you imagine? A drug that stops IBD? For most of us who suffer with the disease every day, that certainly seems like an impossible dream. I'm sure more research will be done and we'll be hearing more about these drugs in the coming years.

We pray that this new drug will cure our son and thousands and thousands of others who are suffering from colitis. It is an unbearable pain to see how my son is suffering with colitis.
Dear Amber Tresca,
You wrote on 1/17/08 about a Gastroenterology article that reported on success with IBD through hydroxxylase inhibitors. I cannot find that article, and would appreciate the exact reference, as well as any other information you may have about this medication. Thank you.
The reference is cited in my blog post. Here is the direct link to the Jan 08 article in the journal Gastroenterology: http://www.gastrojournal.org/article/PIIS001650850701743X/abstract
Are there any news about this treatment?
Has there been any recent word on this prospective new treatment?
