Remicade Found More Effective Than Imuran for Crohn’s

The results of a trial presented at the American College of Gastroenterology Annual Scientific Meeting showed that Remicade (infliximab) by itself or in combination with Imuran (azathioprine) was more effective than Imuran alone in treating Crohn’s disease. Currently, Imuran is considered a maintenance drug for Crohn’s disease, and Remicade is typically only used when other drugs have failed. The results of this research may call that treatment method into question, and Remicade could be used more frequently.
