Vitamin E for IBD?

Monday November 10, 2008
Researchers in Tehran have published a study in World Journal of Gastroenterology that shows that rectally-administered vitamin E may induce remission in ulcerative colitis. Of the 15 patients with mild to moderate ulcerative colitis, 9 achieved remission after 12 weeks of receiving an enema of d-alpha tocopherol (vitamin E). All of the study participants were also receiving 5-ASA drugs and/or immunomodulator medications to control their IBD. The authors of the study indicate that vitamin E may be a new type of therapy for ulcerative colitis.
