Does Accutane Cause IBD?

Tuesday November 25, 2008
A court in Atlantic City, NJ awarded a total of $12.9 million to 3 plaintiffs who claim that Accutane caused their inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Warnings for the drug do indicate a link to IBD, but the plaintiffs claim that their physicians were not properly advised of the risk. Roche Holding AG, the maker of Accutane, deny the drug has a connection to IBD. There are as many as 550 other cases against Roche in connection with Accutane. At least one study has shown that Accutane may be a trigger for people who have a strong family history of IBD or people who already have symptoms of IBD.
