For people with IBD, a gift of food or wine is probably not the best idea. Especially perennial holiday favorites like popcorn, chocolate, and foods with nuts. You can't be sure that those things aren't triggers. Even if you do know the person well, things may have changed.
Another poor gift choice would be pill holders or splitters, or anything for medication management. Nobody wants to get a reminder of the mountain of pills that they must take every day. Even though those things are useful, it's just not something that's likely to go over well.
I don't believe I've ever received an IBD-specific gift, though I have received plenty of things that are very welcome for someone with IBD (or most anyone), such as puzzles, comfortable clothing, a portable DVD player, books by authors I enjoy, a subscription to a DVD rental service, and my laptop (which I can't live without!).
Have you ever received a gift from a well-meaning person that just irritated you? Did they think it would make your life with IBD easier, but it only served to remind you of your illness? Tell us about it!
