Prescriptions Going Digital
Have you ever gone to the pharmacy expecting to pick up your medication, only to discover you have to wait because the pharmacist can't read your doctor's handwriting? While you're waiting for the pharmacy staff to get your physician on the phone, you wonder how many times pharmacists unknowingly fill a script with the wrong dosage (or drug) because of illegible handwriting. Compounding the problem is the fact that many drugs have very similar names. The federal government thinks the problem is so large that they are earmarking $26 million to fund computerized drug-order systems and other technology in rural hospitals.
