Definition:
Organ where most digestion occurs. It measures about 20 feet and includes the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum.

Short bowel syndrome is a group of problems affecting people who have had half or more of their small intestine removed.
Upper GI Series
An upper gastrointestinal (upper GI) series utilizes X-rays to find problems in the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (the first section of the small intestine). Sometimes it may be used to examine the small intestine.
