The transverse colon is between the ascending and the descending colon.

Definition: The transverse colon is the part of the large intestine that is between the ascending colon and the descending colon. "Transverse" means lying crosswise; therefore, the transverse colon is the section that runs from the right side of the abdomen to the left.
