Fans of the ABC daytime show General Hospital will recognize this name. John York plays police commissioner "Mac Scorpio" on the popular soap opera. Before General Hospital, York did television shows, such as 21 Jump Street, Family Ties and Newhart. York is married to casting director Vicki (Manners) York and has one daughter.

York also has ulcerative colitis, and was diagnosed at the age of 17. The disease prevented him from following his dream of playing football for a Big 10 university, but he has had a successful acting career despite his illness. He is now a spokesperson for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, for which he has recorded some public service announcements.
