Definition: When a disease has entered a state where there is little or no disease activity and symptoms have abated, it is said to be in remission. Remission does not mean that the disease is cured, but that the disease is currently quiescent. Symptoms and disease activity could return, as in the case of chronic diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis).
