People who have IBD are at risk for several types of intestinal complications, and one of those is a blockage. A bowel blockage (also called an obstruction), occurs when stool is not able to move through the intestine because the bowel is kinked or because something (like a tumor) is in the way. Blockages can occur even in healthy people, but those who have IBD are more prone to them. In this video Dr Bellomo shares some common causes of blockages, what the symptoms are, how a physician makes the diagnosis, and what might be the treatment.
