Kids who have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often miss out on fun activities. Halloween may seem to be another in a long list of events and holidays that kids with IBD may find stressful. How do you handle the pitfalls of Halloween, such as school parties, trick-or-treating, and candy consumption, with your child who has IBD? Do you forgo it entirely, throw your own Halloween party, or just deal with all of it as best you can? Share Your Tips

Fun At Halloween With IBD

When I was at my sickest, and avoiding foods I shouldn't be having (candy), I would make myself some low-residue treats like flaky pastries with jam! I would also set aside some of my favourite good-for-you foods, and call them my sometimes food. Have them as treats! I liked to tell myself, and others, that I dont like candy. That way I didn't have to get into why I wasn't eating it. It made things easier.
