Children and adolescents who have Crohn's disease often have problems with nutrition, which can affect their growth. A study published in the
International Journal of Colorectal Disease finds that treatment with Remicade (infliximab) may help young people with Crohn's disease maintain a healthy weight. The 14 patients that participated in the study were between the ages of 11 and 16, and were either treated with or without Remicade in addition to other drugs (such as mesalazine and azathioprine). Over the 10 months of the study, those patients treated with Remicade had a decrease in disease activity as well as an increase in weight and body mass index.
