Evening primrose oil is thought to be beneficial in the treatment of many medical conditions. This complementary therapy may be helpful for premenstrual syndrome, which affects women who have IBD the same as it affects women who do not have IBD. In fact, some women with IBD or other gastrointestinal complaints such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), find that their digestive problems get worse during premenstrual syndrome. Evening primrose oil is not recommended for use, however, by pregnant or nursing women, as the effects on a baby aren't currently known.
