Definition: An abdominal angiogram is a type of x-ray that is used to view the blood vessels in the abdomen. This test uses contrast dye, which is usually injected through a catheter inserted through the femoral artery in the thigh.
Once the dye is inside the blood vessels, several x-rays are taken of the abdomen. On the x-ray film, the blood vessels appear opaque because of the dye. This way, the physician can see if there is any bleeding in the abdomen or any irregularities with the blood vessels.
