In 1996, National Hockey League player Fernando Pisani was drafted to the Edmonton Oilers in the eighth round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. Edmonton is the only NHL team he has ever played for.
In the fifth game of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals, Pisani scored two goals. The second goal was a record: the first time a shorthanded goal scored in overtime won the game. With a total of 14, Pisani had the highest number of goals in the 2006 playoffs.
In September 2007, the Edmonton Oilers announced that Pisani was undergoing treatment for ulcerative colitis, and would be out of the 2007-08 lineup indefinitely. Pisani's treatment plan has not been made public, but he is expected to return to hockey once his ulcerative colitis is under control.
