If you are not insured, or don't have adequate travel coverage, you may want to consider purchasing travel insurance. Your travel agent may be able to recommend a travel insurance carrier.
If you decide to purchase insurance, make sure that it covers pre-existing conditions (your IBD is probably considered to be pre-existing) and emergency situations. An emergency would be if you had to be evacuated to another location for medical care, or if you need a friend or relative flown out to meet you.
If you purchase your airline or plane tickets with a credit card, check to see if your credit card company offers some insurance (in case you need to alter or cancel your trip due for medical reasons). Many companies do offer some basic insurance, and some may offer you the chance to purchase more.
